Southside Pudgie’s Pizza donates food to local federal workers –

BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WETM) – President Donald Trump agreed to a deal Friday to reopen the government for three weeks. During the partial shutdown, all essential government workers, including air traffic control and TSA agents, have been expected to work without pay.

Many businesses across the country stepped up to help those federal workers who haven’t received a paycheck since December 22nd, the start of the shutdown. One of those businesses, Pudgie’s Pizza, Pasta & Subs on Elmira’s Southside. Owner Rob Cleary and his team donated food to TSA workers at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport Friday.

“The TSA men and women play a very important role in our community,” Cleary said. “We wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to come up here, feed them lunch, and show some appreciation.”

The deal struck Friday includes back pay for some 800,000 federal workers who have gone without paychecks. The Trump administration promises to pay them as soon as possible.
