Pizza lovers in the UK are in for a treat. Leading casual dining restaurant chain Pizza Hut is launching a limited-edition vegan jackfruit pizza in all of its 253 restaurants, teasing that it could become a permanent menu item.
To celebrate Veganuary – the month-long pledge to go vegan for January – Pizza Hut announced today the release of a vegan jackfruit pizza called the Jack ‘n’ Ch**se. The pizza features a tomato base and Violife’s award-winning dairy-free cheese. Sweetcorn, red onion, peppers, BBQ jackfruit, and a BBQ drizzle top the plant-based pizza, which is available on Pan, All American Thin, and Gluten Free bases. Diners can also choose from 15 animal-free toppings if they would like to customize their dish.
The pizza will be available throughout January, although it has the potential to become a permanent menu item if Pizza Hut sells 10,000 vegan pizzas during Veganuary 2019. Sales will be tracked on the “Vegan-O-Meter,” updated weekly, which can be viewed on Pizza Hut UK’s Twitter.
The launch was inspired by upped demand for plant-based food. Kathryn Austin, Director of HR and Marketing at Pizza Hut, said in a statement, “Following the overwhelmingly positive feedback and awards we’ve won for our initial vegan range in 2017, we’ve responded to demand with a third vegan Pizza. We’re confident the Jack ‘n’ Ch**se Pizza will be just as warmly received!”
She continued, “We love innovating and giving our guests as much choice as possible and if this is as successful as we expect it to be, we’ll keep it on the menu for the foreseeable future.”
Also in celebration of the launch, Pizza Hut is running an #IWantYouJack campaign, whereby diners get the chance to win a £100 gift card if they post a picture of their vegan pizza on Instagram.
Pizza Hut joins other big names bringing vegan pizzas to hungry Brits across the UK. Iceland just launched its own frozen plant-based pizza range and to get customers into the Christmas spirit, Pizza Express introduced vegan pine nut and mushroom pizzas as well as plant-based Snowball Dough Balls.
The Vegan Jack ‘n’ Ch**se pizza costs £11.29 and is available from January 1.
