Why: Dough Boys Pizza is in Salmon Creek, northwest of the Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Dough Boys is open seven days a week and has 23 pizzas on the menu plus a smattering of other options such as bread sticks, chicken, salads and combination meals that will feed a family of four to 25.
Atmosphere: The space is mostly kitchen, and there is a small dining area that will seat a minimal crowd at a few tables as well as at a window-side counter with bar stools. The menu options are available for viewing above the counter or on paper menus, which I found handy and a bit easier to browse. The walls are painted red, and the space is trimmed in black. It feels cozy enough to stay and eat.
What I tried: I tried a Half & Half Signature Pizza combination of the Dough Boys Classic Cheese and Memphis BBQ. I also tried the cinnamon sugar bread sticks and a garden salad with balsamic dressing. The crust is moderately thick and holds up well to the toppings. The texture is soft but firm, just a little springy, and the flavor reminded me of fresh-baked French bread. The Dough Boys cheese is made with milk mozzarella on top of a deliciously sweet and tangy red sauce and finished with a special Italian seasoning. The Memphis BBQ combines smoked shredded chicken breast, red onions and bacon on top of a sweet barbecue sauce and drizzled with the same. They were both very appetizing. My favorite was the cheese. The salad was garden fresh, and the cinnamon bread sticks were loaded with cinnamon and sugar. They came with a white frosting, which appeared to be a simple mix of powdered sugar and water. I was not fond of it so I left it off of the sticks.
Menu highlights beyond what I tried: Among the signature pizzas is the Malibu, made with red onions, pineapple, smoked chicken breast, bacon, tomatoes and a ranch-and-barbecue drizzle; the Californian, which diners may order with either white or red sauce and a combination of smoked shredded chicken breast, red peppers, sun-dried tomato and artichoke hearts; the Farm pizza, which consists of smoked shredded chicken, bacon, fresh mushrooms and marinated artichoke hearts; the Capri, made with garlic white sauce topped with smoked shredded chicken breast, diced Roma tomatoes, red onions, red peppers and sun-dried tomatoes; and the Sicilian, with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham and ground beef. There are 16 specialty pizzas to choose from, as well. Chicken tenders and wings are on the menu. Bread sticks include parmesan, cinnamon sugar, cheesy and spicy hot varieties. Salads include a Greek and Caesar. Pizza by the slice is available, and you may create your own, as well.
Other observations: Dough Boys has take-and-bake pizza. Crust options other than regular crust are gluten-free, cauliflower and doughless. Service is polite and friendly. Prices are more than chain delivery and pick-up establishments, but menu options and dine-in justify the bump. Delivery is available within a 10- to 15-minute radius.
Cost: Signature and specialty pizzas are available in 14-inch and 18-inch sizes and cost $19.99 to $25.99. Bread sticks range from $1.25 to $5.99. Salads come in regular, large and family sizes for $3.50 to $15. Chicken tenders are three for $4 and six for $5.50, wings are six for $8 and 12 for $13. Special meal combinations for groups cost $23.99 to $110. Lunch special includes a slice and a drink or a slice and a small salad for $5.55. Pizza by the slice is $3.50 to $4.75.
