Buddy’s Pizzeria is nearing its official opening in Woodhaven, giving Downriver a taste of its original Detroit-style pizza.

The much-anticipated Buddy’s Pizzeria in Woodhaven opening is set for Sept. 5. There will be an official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.

On opening day, the first 100 customers in the restaurant will be honored with coupons for one free pizza, per month, for one year.

Buddy’s newest location, its 15th in the metro area, is located at 21611 Allen Road. The restaurant is on the East side of Allen road, north of West road.

This location, like several others, pays homage to Buddy’s roots and the area. Its 7,000 square foot interior is open and airy with high ceilings. There is seating for 200, including 25 seats on an outdoor patio and the bar area.

“There’s more elements in this restaurant that are traced back to Buddy’s roots,” Wes Pikula, Buddy’s chief brand officer said. “With the automotive history we went out and sourced hubcaps, we sourced different automotive signature that we put on walls. “

New Buddy’s Pizza in Plymouth comes with a slight twist

Those elements include a nod to the bocce ball games played at the original Conant and Six Mile location. Bocce balls are sprinkled throughout the restaurant set on wall structures.

A Spirit of Detroit mural, by Detroit graffiti artist Fel3000ft, holding up the city of Detroit and a Buddy’s pizza in one hand with the RenCen in the backdrop on the wall in the main dining area. Another nod to the original location is the retro “Rendezvous” sign lit up with old theater bulbs. Buddy’s Rendezvous is part of the original name.

There’s also a poster-size black-and-white photo of some of Buddy’s beloved original staff, photos of the original location and a bucket of bocce balls.

While they pay homage to their roots, it all comes back to their Detroit-style pizza.

Expect a full menu with their pizza offerings and toppings, appetizers, soups, salads and more.

Its square pizzas feature a thick crust with crisp and caramelized edges — a hallmark of Detroit-style pizza. The pizza is topped with proprietary blend of Wisconsin brick cheese and the sauce is drizzled on top.

Other giveways and promotions include a free, 4-square cheese for Veterans with proof of service who dine in Sept. 5-8. During opening week, $1 from every 8-square pizza sold will go to its Buddy-to-Buddy program — a volunteer veteran’s program.

Buddy’s in Woodhaven also partnered with Animal Resource Funding Foundation (ARFF). The organization provides animal shelters with a variety of items. Proceeds from the sales Buddy Bones at the Woodhaven location will always go to ARFF.
